High-efficiency step-up dc-dc converter supplies fixed 3.3-V output


Austriamicrosystems has launched the AS1320, a high-efficiency step-up dc-dc converter with fully integrated synchronous rectifier, thereby eliminating the need for external transistors. With a supply voltage of 1.5 to 3.5 V the part can deliver a 200-mA output current at a 3.3-V fixed output voltage. With a 90% efficiency, 90% the AS1320 is suited for battery-powered portable applications.

The AS1320 features a shutdown mode where it draws less than 1 ΜA. In shutdown mode, the battery is connected directly to the output to enable direct battery feed through. This enables the input battery to be used as backup or as a real-time clock supply when the converter is off and eliminates the need for an expensive back-up battery. To ensure stable operation, the integrated power-on reset circuitry enables the AS1320 to reset any type of microprocessor after power up.

The AS1320 is available in a SOT23 six-pin package and is pin compatible to Maxim's MAX1833 and MAX8569B parts.
