Designed to operate with the StackableUSB specification, Micro/sys has released a host microcontroller, the USB1032, that lets OEMs fit their control system into a 1.85- by 1.78-in. footprint, which is one-quarter the size of the PC/104 form factor. Powered by a Microchip PIC32 microcontroller, the USB1032 provides 125 DMIPS of performance while consuming just 100 mA of power.
The USB1032 offers a host of features, including an 80-MHz system clock, 512 kbytes of flash memory, 32 kbytes of SRAM, and an on-board RS-232 transceiver. Also included are a 10-bit ADC, eight programmable LEDs, digital I/O, and the PIC32's software tools. These features provide easy development and shorter time-to-market.
For applications requiring additional capabilities, the USB1032 can stack up to 10 of the various StackableUSB client-side industrial I/O. A simple I/O solution can be added starting at under $100. The basic USB1032 starts at $195 in single quantities. Significant OEM discounts are available. More information is available at www.embeddedsys.com.
