LONDON Heikki Huomo has joined Innovision Research & Technology as Technical Director and joins the company’s IC design team in Cirencester, Gloucester from Nokia Ventures, Finland, where he was Director of Ubiquitous Communication.
Huomo will head up the technical design and development staff as the company continues its drive into new business areas. Initially, he will concentrate on three main areas: the Jewel RFID contactless ticketing chip; next generation NFC semiconductor devices and UHF RFID developments. He will also represent Innovision R&T at the NFC Forum.
Huomo said, “I am personally committed to the Near Field Communication 'touch' paradigm and Innovision will be at the heart of this revolution. I see exciting times ahead.”
He was a Nokia for ten years and is known as one of the fathers of NFC (Near Field Communication) in the mobile phone context – this is very short range wireless RFID technology that provides easy and secure connection between devices without needing to go through complicated set-up menus as well as having the capability to read and emulate RFID tags for ticketing and payments.
