Tustin, Calif.CeWin version 3.3, a real-time extension for Microsoft Corp.'s Windows XP operating system, has been enhanced with improved memory partitioning, affording more flexibility in allocating the protected memory area of Windows CE (WinCE). Other improvements include adding support for multiprocessor and dual-core designs, Advanced Programmable Interrupt Controller (APIC) functions, and Windows XP Service Pack 2.
The enhanced memory partitioning precludes the need for a MAXMEM parameter, freeing up that parameter for use by other devices and allowing configurable allocation of WinCE's memory within RAM. The enhanced processor capability addresses the latest dual-core processor designs from Intel and Advanced Micro Devices. CeWin lets WinCE run side by side with Windows XP on one processor. In doing so, it imparts run-time capability to Windows XP while bringing XP's graphics and connectivity features to WinCE.
Development seats for CeWin 3.3 are $10,000. Run-time licenses in production quantities range from $200 to less to $40. A fully functional free evaluation version, good for 30 days, is available from the company's Web site.
