In-vehicle PC sports CAN interface

IEI Technology of Taiwan has launched an all-in-one PC with 8″ touch-screen display in a single integrated unit, designed for in-vehicle applications. The iKarPC is equipped with a CAN bus interface which gives users direct access to numerous vehicle data.

The iKarPC supports most protocols relevant for the data interchange between PC and vehicle, such as OSB-II, J1939 and FMS. This feature gives users access to vehicle control data such as speed, motor temperature or the like.

In addition, the computer sports a number of wireless protocols including WiFi, Bluetooth, HSUPA and GPS. Optional, the computer also can be supplied with a DVB-T receiver which turns it into a digital TV receiver. The intelligent power management feature automatically shuts down the computer after the engine has been stopped. The computer is supplied with Windows XP Embedded.

For system integrators and applications developers, the vendor supplies a range of tools for the display of vehicle data on the screen and the integration of GPS functions. A software developers kit is included. With its operating temperature range (-20 degrees through +60 degrees Celsius as well as the anti-glare display brightness (600nits) and the operating voltage range (9 through 30 VDC) the computer is designed for in-vehicle applications.
