Internal passive antennas enable next-generation DVB-H handsets

Fractus has launched a family of internal passive DVB-H antennas that enable handsets smaller than current DVB-H devices. DVB-H operates on a lower frequency than traditional cellular systems (470 to 862 MHz) and utilizes a broader bandwidth. It therefore requires a larger antenna than is used for either 3G (1900 to 2025 MHz and 2110 to 2200 MHz) or GSM (890 to 915 MHz and 1710 to 1785 MHz) systems.

Fractus' specialized, low-profile internal passive antennas let handset manufacturers create smaller platforms. Fractus is also working closely with OEMs and ODMs to manage interferences that result from the coupling of DVB-H and cellular antennas to achieve optimal device performance.

Antennas for different form factor handsets are available, including a clamshell phone (95 by 45 mm) with an 8- by 35- by 7-mm antenna and a candy-bar phone (100 by 45 mm) with a 10- by 43- by 7-mm antenna. More information can be found at www.fractus.com.
