Investment adds in-house seminar facilities

Newbury, UK — The Abacus distribution group has opened a £1.3million expansion of its headquarters in Newbury, adding an auditorium for customer seminars whilst improving the working environment for the 105 staff based there.

The expansion is based on the re-use of the former 10000sq ft warehouse area in Bone Lane as office and meeting space, following the centralisation of the group's five UK warehouse facilities into one facility at Newcastle-under-Lyme.

The investment has allowed the total area of office space to be increased to15000sq ft, including a 100-seater auditorium fully equipped with audio visual systems to the current standard, plus smaller seminar and meeting rooms.

Abacus kept some of the work in-house as the advanced displays used in the refit were supplied by Trident Microsystems, the Abacus Group display specialist. Staff at headquarters renewed working environment includes wheelchair access throughout, a relaxation area, and an informal meeting area.

Martin Kent, Group CEO, said, “We believe strongly in investing in our relationships with customers and staff, at all stages of the economic cycle. Seminars and training are key in a fast-moving industry like ours, allowing new developments and technologies to be communicated effectively to customers and staff. The ability to hold these easily and cost-effectively in-house is just one of the benefits we see coming from this investment.”
