TÜV SÜD Product Service has made an investment in its specific absorption rate (SAR) service that will make it the largest independent SAR laboratory in Europe..
The laboratory has three UKAS accredited testing platforms, which cover the entire SAR spectrum from 400 MHz to 6 GHz. This means that a wider range of products can now be tested, including less used frequencies such as 1.6 GHz, used by satellite phones, as well as the 2.6 GHz frequency for products that use WiMAX and the new LTE bands. It will also give TÜV SÜD hearing aid compatibility (HAC) test capability.
The investment in the SAR test platforms has included the purchase of a SPEAG DASY4 and the Indexsar SARA-C. These platforms join TÜV SÜD’s two existing Indexsar SARA-2 UKAS test platforms at its UK laboratory.
Jean-Louis Evans, Managing Director of TÜV SÜD Product Service, said, “The regulatory authorities in Europe are increasingly focused on ensuring that users of radio transmitting devices are safe. Operators are also demanding that any products which use their network comply with the regulations.”
“As consumer awareness of the health issues surrounding SAR mount, this is becoming a hot potato for manufacturers,” added Evans. “Consequently, even companies whose products are not required to comply with the regulations want proof that they are within the recommended SAR range in order to help them sell more.”
