Investment to boost IC production in Scotland

Greenock, UK — Production capacity at National Semiconductor's Greenock facility is to be boosted following an investment of $18.5 million in its Greenock manufacturing plant.

The investment programme will enable continued growth in the high-end manufacturing of advanced analog processes for integrated circuits used in products such as mobile phones, telecom applications and flat panel displays.

Gerry Edwards, vice-president of National Semiconductor (UK), said, “This will provide the capacity to increase production, reduce manufacturing costs and ensure that we retain our edge in a very competitive marketplace. The investment is also a vote of confidence from our corporate headquarters in the trained and capable workforce we have at Greenock.”

Brian Halla, National's chairman, president and chief executive officer, said during a recent visit to the Greenock site, “This investment underlines the site's reputation as a world-class manufacturer and highlights the central role Greenock has in the corporation.”
