IP awarness needs to improve says minister

London, UK — There needs to be a better awareness and understanding of Intellectual Property (IP) throughout the British business community according to Lord Sainsbury, the Minister for Science and Innovation.

He pointed out that over 85% of businesses say they think patents are of little or no importance in protecting innovation and three quarters of SME's do not patent their own products but he belives that by working in partnership Government and the private sector could be especially effective in creating a better awareness and understanding of IP.

The comments came in and address to the Chartered Institute of Patent Agents Annual Congress and the Institute's President Anna Denholm said ” I am delighted that the Minister is so keen to increase awareness of Intellectual Property and pleased that he wants to involve the Institute. I am sure he is right when he says we can be more effective as a partnership”
