Already today, a lot of wireless charging solutions for smartphones are available – either table chargers or chargers installed in cars. However, the design of wireless charging devices is far from being trivial. If done incorrectly, it can impact the user experience from compatibility, thermal and safety issues, to reduced efficiency as well as device and battery damage. Nelly Esclozas, Product Marketing for Microcontroller at Infineon Technologies AG, explains how the pitfalls in setting up a working system can be avoided. Additionally, she gives an overview on solutions for applications with low, mid, and high power designs, including respective block diagrams.
