LONDON MontaVista Software, Inc, has bought two U.K.-based companies in a move to strengthen its ability to meet exploding demand in Europe for commercial Linux products and services.
MontaVista Ltd. (Bracknell, England), was originally established as a joint venture in 2004, has now become a wholly owned subsidiary of MontaVista Software (Santa Clara, CA) to improve its direct sales and customer service operations in the U.K, market.
MontaVista Software has also bought Liberté Software Ltd. (Bracknell, England), a Linux design services company, which until 2004 was MontaVista's official distributor in the United Kingdom, Ireland and South Africa. It continued to with MontaVista to provide complete solutions based on the company's Linux software. Liberté, which also has an office in Russia, has relationships with GoAhead Software, AMCC, McObject, and Go-Global.
Ian Graham, former head of both organizations and now European director of professional services for MontaVista Software, said: “The transition into MontaVista has been seamless for our customers, employees and partners. With the increase in EMEA capability and focus, we are now well positioned to address the growing demand for the embedded Linux OS and value-added services.”
The entire sales and services delivery staff of both MontaVista Ltd and Liberté have become full-time MontaVista Software employees.
The MontaVista Ltd. and Liberté units, which will now carry the MontaVista Software name, will provide sales support and professional/consulting services to electronic design customers and partners for the entire EMEA region, helping them to customize Linux and to implement new software platforms that use the open-source OS.
Russell Harris, executive vice-president of world wide field operations at MontaVista Software, said, “Customers are clamouring for access to scarce kernel-level expertise in real-time Linux, and the acquisition of Liberté and MontaVista Limited expands our experience and capabilities to provide the services and support they need.”
