Small enough for wearable devices, STMicroelectronics’ LIS2DW12 three-axis accelerometer draws only 50 nA in standby mode and 380 nA in low-power mode at a 1.6-Hz output data rate, adding negligible load on the battery. Operating from a supply voltage of 1.62 to 3.6 V, the LIS2DW12 enables extended operation from small coin or button cells.
The MEMS device provides 16-bit output and can be set to prioritize low power consumption or low-noise performance, with a choice of five settings in either mode. According to the manufacturer, the sensor’s noise density of down to 90 µg/√Hz is 25% lower than similar devices in the marketplace, which improves measurement accuracy in a wide range of healthcare, fitness, gaming, industrial, and environmental applications.
The LIS2DW12 has user-selectable full-scale ranges of ±2 g, ±4 g, ±8 g, and ±16 g and is capable of measuring accelerations with output data rates from 1.6 Hz to 1600 Hz.
