MultiMediaCard densities reach 1 and 2 Gbytes

Samsung Electronics is sampling 1- and 2-Gbyte MultiMediaCards (MMCs), claiming to be the first in the industry to reach this capacity with this form factor. The higher densities and faster speeds of Samsung’s Version 4.1 memory cards let users reach higher performance from advanced mobile consumer devices, such as mobile phones, digital still cameras (DSCs), PDAs, MP3 music players, and PMPs (portable multimedia players).

The can transmit data at 52 Mbytes/s, up to 20 times faster than the company's previous MMC versions, by supporting wider (by-4 and by-8) bus widths and faster clock speeds (up to 52 MHz). The memory card is capable of dual-voltage support (1.8 or 3.3 V), satisfying both the low voltage and the low power consumption requirements for mobile phones.

Each MMC device is compatible with existing MMC (Version 4.1) specifications, established by the MultiMediaCard Association (MMCA). For more information, visit www.samsung.com.
