Nanoelectronics organization ready for 7th framework

LONDON — The industrial members of the the European Technology Platform for Nanoelectronics (ENIAC) steering committee are to form AENEAS, a legal entity that will represent industry and academia in the execution of the proposed Joint Technology Initiative in Nanoelectronics.

The companies which signed a memorandum of understanding are NXP Semiconductors, Infineon Technologies, STMicroelectronics, ASML, Thomson, Bosch, SOITEC, and Thales.

The Association for European Nanoelectronics Activities (AENEAS) is expected to be operational by the end of the year and will provide the legal frame for the partnership with the European Commission and Member and Associated States in the context of the proposed Joint Technology Initiatives model.

The latter is a new mechanism in the European Framework Programme 7 and when implemented, this Joint Technology Initiative will provide at least €3 billion in private and public investments for the implementation of large European research and technology development projects in nanoelectronics.
