New technologies fuel Omron – Abacus partnership

LONDON — In a strategic move to extend its channel partnerships to take its growing portfolio of innovative technologies to a wider customer base, Omron Components Business Europe has appointed Abacus Polar as a distributor for its full range of components, in the U.K. and Ireland.

Nigel Blakeway, Chief Operating Officer of Omron Components Business Europe said, “Omron is evolving rapidly. We are moving into new areas such as MEMs sensors for industrial and medical applications, as well as expanding our established switching components to address challenges in broadband communications, automotive and other markets. These developments are driving a need for additional distribution partnerships that are complementary to our existing relationships, addressing new customers in new markets.”

“Abacus Polar has a unique approach to demand creation, with a highly technical sales force located close to its customers in regional offices throughout the UK and Ireland. We believe that they are the right partner to work with us in identifying new opportunities with a broader customer base for our fast developing portfolio of technologies and solutions,” added Blakeway.

Vendor reduction has been a long term driver in the U.K. market and Blakeway explained that some potential and long term customers who buy through the distribution channels had expressed a preference to buy through Abacus. In some cases Abacus was buying Omron product from other distributors to satisfy this demand and will give the distributor a good base for its growth of the franchise.

Abacus Polar is to offer technical and logistical support across the full range of Omron electromechanical relays and switches, connectors, solid state switches and sensors. Customers will be supported via all 17 Abacus Polar regional offices in the U.K. and Ireland, and the Abacus Distribution Centre in Ashton-under-Lyne, England.

Martin Kent, Chief Executive of Abacus Group, said, “Omron’s switching and sensing components are highly complementary to our existing ranges, enabling our field applications engineers to partner with customers to address a wider range of design challenges. We have the utmost respect for Omron’s approach to quality, and their partnership-oriented business culture. Together, we believe we can exceed our customers highest expectations.”
