NI LabView targeting Wind River RTOS

SAN FRANCISCO — National Instruments (NI) has extended its LabView graphical programming environment to target the Wind River VxWorks real-time operating system (RTOS), the company said Tuesday (April 3).

NI (Austin, Texas) said its cRIO-9012 and cRIO-9014 CompactRio controllers combine the productivity of LabView Real-Time and the reliability of the VxWorks device software, making it easy for engineers to rapidly design embedded systems.

“The combination of these technologies helps fulfill the DSO mandate by enabling engineers to move complicated designs faster through the design cycle and into deployment,” said Warren Kurisu, director of product management at Wind River, in a statement.

Using the Freescale Power Architecture, the customization of the Xilinx Virtex-II FPGA in the reconfigurable chassis and VxWorks in the cRIO-9012 and cRIO-9014 controllers provides engineers with a stand-alone system that can perform applications with maximum reliability in the harshest of environments, NI said.
