Observant intros standard I/O designs

Melksham, UK — A family of software-configurable, mixed signal I/O products that adds flexibility to control and data acquisition applications is the first standard product to be developed by Observant Electronics.

By combining software-configurable channels with a compact instruction set the DataStation family, overcomes the two main problems of traditional serial I/O solutions: limited choice of channel configurations and low sample rates.

Traditionally Observant has focused on the design and manufacture of custom control and data acquisition solutions but the release of the DataStation family represents the company's expansion into the growing market for standard control and data acquisition products.

Delivering a 12bit sample rate of greater the 500samples/s DataStation is suitable for applications including machine control, industrial automation, environmental monitoring and robotics.

DataStation's 16 software-configurable channels can be configured to give any combination of up to 6 analog inputs (with selectable 8 or 12 bit resolution), 2 PWM outputs, 16 digital inputs and 16 digital outputs; giving a total of 391 different I/O configurations from a single product.

The family is available as an OEM product and in an IP65 rated enclosure and will be extended to include an IP40 rated enclosure plus RS-485 and CAN-bus interfaces in addition to the current RS-232 interface.
