Omron Software is looking to extend existing Linux support for its Mobile Wnn entry system software beyond the business desktop and personal computing environments to embedded mobile devices.
It has formed an alliance with MontaVista Software to jointly develop and market products which use Mobile Wynn running on the embedded MontaVista's Linux platform. The move is seen as helping embedded developers turn consumer electronics devices, such as cellular phones and PDAs, into mobile terminals.
Since launch in 1999, Mobile Wynn has been deployed in more than 50 devices from 20 manufacturers. These range from cell phones and the PlayStation2 from Sony, to musical instruments from Yamaha.
