LONDON The U.K.'s Safety-Critical Systems Club is organising a one day seminar on cost-effective approaches to developing safe systems.
The club says however much we spend, we can never guarantee absolute safety, but have to achieve acceptable safety within finite budgets. To focus on cost-effectiveness is not to put a price on safety: instead it is to ensure that resources are not squandered. This leads naturally to questions about the effectiveness of the tools and processes used, the people that use them and the culture that provides the context for their use.
