Pacer expands opto choice with Rocotech acquisition

LONDON — Pacer PLC has bought the distribution arm of Rocotech International Ltd, a company with 15 years experience in photonics components and systems.

Pacer (Pangbourne, England) is a supplier and integrator of specialist photonics, displays, lasers, lenses and fibre-optic products and it claims that Rocotech's products are “a strong fit with Pacer's existing business, and the purchase represents an important strategic expansion; broadening the company's product portfolio considerably, whilst maintaining synergy with its current lines”.

Graham Rothon, Pacer's Managing Director, said, “Rocotech has a similar market strategy to Pacer's, and the company's breadth of experience and applications' expertise will be an integral part of our long-term strategy for growth in our core markets. Pacer will further expand its product portfolio and is currently in negotiations with other major manufacturers.”

Colin Thomas, Rocotech's Managing Director and Pacer's new Director of Rocotech Products, will supervise a three-year programme to transfer technical capabilities as well as product and market knowledge from Rocotech to Pacer. His responsibilities will also include ensuring the smooth transfer of Rocotech's existing customers and suppliers.”

Thomas said, “The sale of the distribution arm of the business will enable Rocotech to focus on its remaining products and allow the distribution business to be further developed by Pacer.”

The deal sees existing suppliers and customers being transferred to Pacer with immediate effect. The suppliers include Lightpath Technologies, a specialist manufacturer of moulded aspheric lenses, graded index lenses and fibre coupled collimators. Other additions to Pacer's portfolio are B&W Tek's miniature array spectrometers, diode pumped solid state lasers and light sources, and Brimrose Corporation's comprehensive range of acousto optic products.
