PCB designers professional group gets down to work

London, UK — The inaugural meeting of the UK Design Chapter of the IPC Designers Council, a professional body for printed circuit designers, has taken place at DDI Marlow.

Formed in May 2003, the group is to organise seminars, workshops and develop its web site: UK DC of the IPC

A presentation was given on 'Lead-Free' soldering by DDi's Martin Morrell, covering the WEEE & ROHS Directives; health issues; lead-free finishes; component selection; costs; and “What next?”

A tour of DDi's plant lead by DDi's Sales Manager, David Wylie, which enabled Chapter members and guests to view the latest technology employed to produce complex PCB's. It included areas such as front-end tooling, direct laser imaging, optical inspection, and laser drilling.

The chapter's second event will be a visit to 3C Test Ltd on 25th September 2003 which will include a technical presentation by the company on the EMC testing required for everyday commercial electronic products and a tour of its EMC test facilities.
