LONDON John Cowburn has joined the technical team at PRI as technology manager. He has over 18 years' experience in product development for the metering industry with Siemens and Landis+Gyr, having been responsible for their family of prepay products.
For the last five years, he has been in charge of strategic technology at Landis+Gyr, concentrating on developing smart metering concepts for the next generation of communicating meters for automatic meter reading applications employing technologies such as Bluetooth, GSM, Ethernet and Powerline carrier.
Cowburn represents the U.K. metering industry on two international IEC working groups on payment systems and reliability. He said, “I see PRI, with its international development team, as ideally placed to take advantage of the developments emerging around the world in the field of smart metering and payment systems, and am keen to see new ideas coming to fruition.”
PRI is an intelligent metering specialists active in the development, production and supply of computerised electronic meters and software. It provides utilities companies, industry and commerce with electricity meters as well as related products and services for energy monitoring and management.
It claims to have been the first company to use microprocessors for the accurate measurement of fundamental electrical parameters – leading to the CALMU technology available today.
