The EX4210R, from TTi (Thurlby Thandar Instruments), is ahigh-current single-output bench power supply capable of currents upto 10A at voltages up to 42 V.
The choice of 42 V enables the unit to be used as a test sourcefor the new generation of automotive electrical parts which will use42 V (18-cell batteries) instead of 14 V (6-cell batteries) to reducecurrents and hence wiring losses.
The power supply incorporates remote sense terminals, which caneliminate the effects of connection lead resistance. Sensing can beselected as remote or local by a front-panel switch.
The EX4210R uses mixed-mode regulation technology which combinesswitch-mode pre-regulation with linear post-regulation. Specialtechniques are used to maintain very high efficiency whilst achievingnoise levels that are close to that of a pure linear regulator.
Line and load regulation are both better than 0.01% and outputnoise is less than 2mV at full power. High-resolution controls allowaccurate setting of voltage and current levels.
The EX4210R incorporates separate 4-digit voltage and currentmeters giving a resolution of 10 mV and 10 mA. The meters use bright14mm LED displays, and have an update rate of four per second toprovide near-instantaneous response. The output is intrinsicallyshort-circuit proof, and is protected against external voltages andreverse currents.
