Qualcomm pushes cars, health and IoT at CES
LAS VEGAS — Qualcomm came to the International CES highlighting partnerships in automotive, health, and the Internet of Things but without any big chip announcements.
The most discussed Qualcomm partnerships involves the LG G Flex2, a curved, “self-healing” smartphone and the first to be powered by a Snapdragon 810 octacore processor with carrier aggregation. The handset also uses Qualcomm's Adreno 430 GPU embedded in the 810.

The Snapdragon chip family is in more than 1 billon Android smartphones, Qualcomm president Derek Aberle said. He expects “tremendous growth in smartphones” in the next five years, with an additional 8 billion shipments in developed and emerging regions between 2014 and 2018.

“Although we continue to see a lot of momentum around technology for mobile, we see a huge opportunity to take those technologies into new segments and transform the edge of the Internet,” Aberle said.
