LONDON Quantum Research Group Ltd. (Ireland) has opened a design, support, and technology licensing business unit within the NOVATION incubation facility Millmount, Drogheda and is looking to recruit up to 20 staff.
The Irish operation is looking for specialists in intellectual property law, administration, electronics engineering, embedded software development and applications engineering. Joe Carroll, previously the finance director of NEC Semiconductor (Ireland) has been appointed finance director and Rian Whelan has joined from Motorola U.K. to head up technology development and support at the centre.
The company will work with Quantum Research Group U.K. (Hamble, England) to develop touch-sensing controls for products such as domestic appliances, mobile phones and personal media players, and will focus especially on touch screen solutions.
It will also engage in technology transfer work, technical support, and deal with the contract administration of the Group’s expandingIP portfolio.
The U.K. operation is also looking to recruit engineers for hardware, embedded software development, and applications support.
Quantum received the support of the IDA Ireland in establishing its first operation in Ireland and is looking to link set up joint technology initiatives with local universities.
