SANTA CRUZ, Calif. Middleware provider Real-Time Innovations (RTI) announced Monday (Feb. 12) that its software development tool suite is now hosted on the open-source Eclipse platform. As such, RTI has become the latest provider of embedded software development tools to embrace Eclipse.
RTI provides high-performance messaging software for real-time applications, data and devices. The company offers a solution that manages storage, retrieval, and distribution of fast-changing data in dynamically configuring network environments. The RTI Developer Platform is a set of tools that helps users develop and integrate distributed data networks.
The Eclipse platform gives software tools the ability to plug in and share common services. It allows dynamic data sharing between tools, source code control, and editing. Eclipse plug-ins share a common look and feel, and Eclipse lets users customize their development environments.
Many providers of embedded software development tools have already embraced Eclipse. Meanwhile, work is underway within the Eclipse Foundation to better serve embedded software and device developers. Late last year, the Eclipse Foundation announced three “milestone” releases within its Device Software Development Platform program.
The RTI Developer Platform offers tools for the development, debugging, analysis, and optimization of distributed applications. The platform's RTI Analyzer has been integrated into Eclipse. It provides a dynamic, object-based view of an active RTI system from a node and data-topic perspective. In addition to viewing a system in real time, users can save snapshots of a system's state and compare and visualize the differences.
“Eclipse is a foundational technology. Many innovative services are now being built on it,” said Stan Schneider, RTI CEO, in a statement. “It was a high priority for us to leverage that foundation to deliver value, productivity, and ease of integration to our customers.”
RTI software and services have been deployed in industries including defense, intelligence, simulation, industrial control, transportation, finance and communications.
