NEC has developed a mobile router that enables seamless broadband communication from moving vehicles, such as trains and cars. This is accomplished using a wireless LAN and a 3G cellular network. Use of this mobile router achieves a ubiquitous networked environment where uninterrupted communication can occur.
Seamless roaming must occur between different medium connecting the two networks. This happens using a mobile router called the Litebird, which handles both the wireless LAN and 3G data. Easy installation in carriages comes thanks to its miniature size. In tests, stable 6-Mbit/s communication was realized at a speed of 200 km/hr. More information is available at www.nec.com.
