Reference design speeds up development of 3 Gbits/s SDI video apps

Burlington, Canada —Gennum Corp. says it's offering the industry's first reference design and development board to deliver 3 Gbits/s video transmission using existing dual-link equipment. The new reference design enables engineers to develop, test and prototype 3 Gbits/s serial data interface (SDI) applications including video cameras, camcorders, DVRs/VTRs and 3 Gbits/s test signal generation.

The 3 Gbits/s reference design and development board converts a SMPTE 372M dual link 1080p 50/60 serial digital interface (SDI) signal to an industry-standard SMPTE 424M-compliant 3 Gbits/s signal and vice versa. The reference design includes Gennum's equalizer, reclocker, cable driver, timing generator, clock cleaner, dual optical receiver and transmitter. Customers have the choice of buying the entire board, enabling test and evaluation of their 3 Gbits/s products, or using the design as a reference in developing their products.

Gennum is demonstrating the functionality of this new reference design, as well as its new 3 Gbits/s optical modules at IBC 2007, September 7-11.

Availability: The reference design and development board is expected to be available in the fourth quarter of 2007.
