The Anritsu ME7834 is a scalable platform for testing multiple wireless technologies, including multi-mode LTE and W-CDMA UEs. It enables complete design, certification, and carrier acceptance testing of a multi-mode LTE or W-CDMA UE with incremental investments in capital test equipment.

The platform can be configured to include protocol conformance testing as well as carrier acceptance tests. Integrated signaling testers for LTE (FDD and TDD), UTRAN/GERAN, and CDMA2000 technologies enable the ME7834 to provide flexibility, including simulation of inter-RAT handovers, complex cell selection environments, and mobility with fading. Additionally, the choice of test case programming and execution environments, including the graphical Rapid Test Designer (RTD) software or TTCN, allows the ME7834 to adapt to user or industry requirements.
 
Configurations of the ME7834 system include a development configuration, protocol conformance configuration, and operator acceptance configuration, with options to tailor each to a specific user’s requirements. Upgrade options are available to allow the user to easily add to a base system, as they move through the development cycle or test requirements change.
 
The development configuration allows a user to start with a signaling tester and RTD software, and provides R&D-focused test capability from layer 1 to layer 3.  Graphical 'procedure' test steps are available with optional libraries for testing at each layer, and complete test cases utilizing these test steps are also optionally available. A possible Development Configuration could include the MD8430A LTE signaling tester with RTD software, along with a pre-written library of test cases, such as the LTE Integration Library.
 
The Protocol Conformance Configuration allows users to run GCF and PTCRB-validated TTCN test cases to certify that their UEs meet industry requirements.  A possible Protocol Conformance Configuration could include either one or two MD8430A LTE signaling testers, as well as one or more MD8480C signaling testers, depending on test case coverage requirements in 34.123 (for W-CDMA UEs) or 36.523 (for LTE UEs).
 
The operator acceptance configuration includes support for operator-specific test cases required by Tier 1 LTE and W-CDMA operators. This configuration can enable data throughput, data retry, and SMS test coverage, with multi-mode testing available with the addition of signaling testers for W-CDMA and/or CDMA2000 technology.
