Scottish display start-up adds U.S. specialist

LONDON — Dr. John Corless has joined CRLO Displays as Manager, Optical Engine Development and will initially be based in the company's new offices in Walnut Creek, Calfornia. He and his family will later relocate to the company's HQ in Dalgety Bay, Scotland.

Corless was previously a Research Manager and Engineering Manager with JDS Uniphase, where he led the successful development of optical engines for High Definition Rear Projection Televisions (HD-RPTVs).

Greg Truman, COO of CRLO Displays, said, “John’s optics expertise complements our established capabilities in Ferroelectric Liquid Crystal on Silicon (F-LCOS) microdisplays.” CRLO Displays was formed in September 2004 through investments by Amadeus Capital Partners and Doughty Hansen Technology Ventures and has developed and manufactured a 0.9” fast switching, fully digital microdisplay that offers full motion, full colour (24 bit), 720 line HDTV images from a single microdisplay chip.
