SFP optical transceivers operate in industrial temperature range

Sugar Land, Tex.—Applied Optoelectronics Inc. (AOI) has introduced a family of small-form-factor pluggable (SFP) optical transceivers with an industrial operating temperature range.

The transceivers operate up to 4.5-Gbits/s and are designed to meet the wavelength specifications required in coarse wavelength division multiplexed (CWDM) networks over their entire operating temperature range, extending from -40°C to +85°C.

Most currently available CWDM SFP modules operate over a temperature range from -10 to +70°C. A combination of unique uncooled laser chip design and an optimized module design enables this significant advance in transceiver technology.

The modules comply with the hot pluggable SFP Multi-Source Agreement; FC-PI 13.0; and digital diagnostic SFF-8472. They support Serial ID functionality and meet GR 468 reliability specifications.

The transceivers are offered at all wavelengths specified in the ITU-standard CWDM grid (G.694.2) from 1270-nm through 1610-nm.

The transceivers are currently shipping in volume.
