Smatrac expands German facility to make RFID inlays

LONDON — Smartrac NV, a manufacturer and supplier of RFID transponders, has started construction of an RFID inlay production facility for electronic identification (eID) products in Germany.

Work on the enlargement of the existing production facility has already started at the site in Reichshof-Wehnrath where the Smartrac (Amsterdam, the Netherlands) already produces transponders for industry and logistics markets.

The site is now being expanded to accommodate a production environment for the manufacture of highly secure RFID inlays for eID documents such as passports and National ID Cards. The company plans to set up a high security environment compliant with the EAL 5+ security standard, comparable to what is already in place in its high security facility in Thailand.

“The extension work in Reichshof-Wehnrath is in line with our strategy to support our customers with a worldwide network of highly secure inlay production sites,” said Dr. Christian Fischer, CEO of Smartrac.
