Uppsala, Sweden – IAR Embedded Workbench for RX is a set of C and C++ tools for building and debugging embedded system software for RX microcontrollers. Together with IAR PowerPac for RX, a family of RTOS and middleware, it promotes a simple and rapid design flow.
The Workbench provides a completely integrated development environment including a project manager, editor, build tools and debugger. In a continuous workflow, source files and projects can be created, built and debugged on hardware or in a simulator.
A high level of integration between IAR Embedded Workbench and IAR PowerPac, where RTOS, middleware, and application software are built and debugged in the same environment, streamlines the workflow and makes development of multi-tasking applications and applications using communication protocols like USB or Ethernet easier, shortening project times.
IAR PowerPac for RX includes RTOS, file system, TCP/IP stack and USB device stack. Offering a very small memory footprint, it is ideal for use in microcontrollers with limited resources. The PowerPac is tightly integrated with IAR Embedded Workbench.
RTOS internals such as a task list, timers, queues, semaphores, resources and mailboxes can be displayed and visualized by the IAR C-SPY debugger when running an application based on IAR PowerPac. Example projects showing how to set up and use IAR PowerPac and template projects for quick and easy use are available in IAR Embedded Workbench. There are also board support packages available for selected starter kits.
IAR Embedded Workbench for RX and IAR PowerPac for RX are available today. Evaluation versions can be downloaded from www.iar.com/downloads. Device support is implemented for devices of the RX600 series and support for new devices will be added continuously. Board support packages for IAR PowerPac for RX will be added as development boards are made available.
