Spectre becomes part of Avnet Memec

LONDON — Avnet Inc. is to acquire the assets of UK-based Spectre (Communications) Ltd., a specialist distributor of communications and wireless solutions and will integrate its activities in to the Avnet Memec UK business.

Spectre was set up as part of Flint Distribution Ltd. 1997 but became a separate company in April 2003. Flint was acquired by Avnet in July 2007.

“Adding Spectre’s highly skilled technical employees to our UK team will enhance Avnet Memec’s position as the leading pan-European specialist for wireless solutions and will benefit both customers and suppliers alike,” said Patrick Zammit, president of Avnet Electronics Marketing EMEA.

“The acquisition will not only strengthen Avnet’s position with Laird Technologies, but also add new RF and Wireless suppliers, such as CSR, SiRF (now part of CSR), CML and Antenova, to Avnet Memec’s breadth of product offerings in this area and expands and further strengthen Avnet Memec’s presence in the RF and Wireless market.”

Spectre (Coalville, UK) supplies a range of chips, modules, and platforms for Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, GPS, GPRS, VOIP, Zigbee, ULN, WLAN, ISM, and multimedia processing. Among its principals are 2J Antenna, Antenova, Artimi, AvantWave, CCWW, CML, CSR, GP Batteries, Hyperstone, Laird Technologies, Micronas, Mitsumi, Polstar, Sierra Wireless, Suprema,Telecom Design, Teltonika, Time Domain and Varta.
