Splayed pin heat sinks provide optimal cooling in low airspeeds and natural convection

The UltraCool P line of splayed pin fin heat sinks, developed by Cool Innovations, generates a cooling premium of 20% to 30% over standard pin fin heat sinks, when operating in low airspeed environments and in the natural convection mode.

UltraCool P pin fins feature an array of round pins that are splayed outwards. They possess the same large surface area of conventional pin fin heat sinks, but aren't as densely configured. The sparse configuration enables surrounding airflows to enter and exit the pin array more efficiently.

The heat sinks are forged from pure aluminum and oxygen-free copper and are available in a variety of standard sizes, ranging in footprint from 0.5 by 0.5 in. to 2.0 by 2.0 in., and in height from 0.2 to 1.1 in. The splayed line is suitable for any surface-mount package and is offered with pre-applied double-sided thermal tape as well as mechanical clips.
