Lexington, Mass. — Designed to help manufacturers reduce board space, STMicrolectronics has packed its two new 512-kbit low-voltage serial EEPROMs in TSSOP8 packages.
Operating at 1.8-volts, the M95512 and M24512 EEPROMs are aimed at I2C (intelligent interface controller) and SPI (serial peripheral interface) bus applications. The M95512 and M24512 EEPROMs are manufactured on STMicroelectronics' 1.65-V, 0.18-micron process technology, enabling the512-kbit devices to fit into the TSSOP8 packages that measure a tiny 4.5 X 3.1 mm.
The M95512 offers a high-speed frequency of 10MHz and above with a 5ms write time, and is compatible with the SPI bus serial interface. The M24512 features an I2Cserial interface with a 400-kHz clock rate. Both devices operate in two voltage ranges: 1.8 to 5.5V and 2.5 to 5.5V.
The devices are suitable for applications in which a large amount of parameter data is rapidly changing. They include video-game systems, electronic toys, digital cameras, PDAs, MP3 players/recorders and other portable consumer applications.
The M95512 in the TSSOP8 package is sampling and in volume production. STMicroelectronics plans to sample and produce the M24512 in the second quarter of 2005. Prices start at $1.60 for the M95512 and $1.45 for the M24512 in quantities of 10,000.
