Basingstoke, UK Technical distributor, Telecom Design Communications (TDC), has presented the prizes to winners in its second annual Young Innovator of the Year competition.
This year students were given the task of thinking of ways of 'Making Machines See'. The competition invited students to think of the car of 2010 and to consider how many cameras will be built into them. Schools and colleges in Hampshire and Berkshire were each sent a competition pack.
Following the judging of over 150 entries, Rebecca Stirk, of Swanmore College of Technology received the first prize of a Polaroid Digital Camera, leather bag and memory card, donated by OmniVision while Jennifer Dingley, also of Swanmore received a Siemens M50 Mobile Phone. Natwest Bank Accounts with £50 in went to Michael Alder of Swanmore and Victoria Nugent of Costello Technology College.
Barbara Bryant, Chief Executive of the North Hampshire Chamber of Commerce and Industry, presented the school prize of £200 of book vouchers to Swanmore College of Technology in Southampton.
Jerry Sandys, Managing Director of TDC, said, “We have been very impressed with the amount and quality of entries received. It is most exciting to see the effort and initiative that has been taken by all of these students, we particularly hope that this has also given students a further chance to consider the exciting opportunities that are available in the electronics industry.”
