LONDON A telecommunications expert from Swansea University has been honoured by some of the world’s leading academics.
Professor Jaafar Elmirghani, Head of the new Institute of Advanced Telecommunicationss (IAT) at Swansea University, was recently presented with two prestigious awards at the 48th annual Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineers (IEEE) GLOBECOM Conference in St Louis.
Professor Elmirghani received the Harold Sobol Award for Exemplary Service to Meetings & Conferences. He is also the winner of this year’s Communications Society (Comsoc) Chapter Achievement Award for 'excellence in Chapter activities' and for contributions made in furthering the objectives of the society.
Professor Elmirghani, said, “I am honoured to be receiving these awards. Comsoc events, particulaly ICC and GLOBECOM, are where research collaborations are initiated, where academia meets industry and where an infectious enthusiasm is created, driving forward telecommunications research and development across the world.”
