Swiss university gains Qualcomm support

LONDON — Qualcomm has signed an agreement with the Ecole Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne (EPFL), a Swiss-based technical university, to acquire intellectual property rights directed to signal processing while providing a research grant to EPFL.

The research grant will enable EPFL to continue its research and work with Qualcomm to generate research ideas that can ultimately lead to commercial products.

“We see investment in academic and research institutions, such as EPFL, as being a key component in translating core technologies into practical solutions and commercial products, and in advancing wireless technology generally,” said Roberto Padovani, executive vice president and chief technology officer of Qualcomm.

In the past few years, Qualcomm has donated to the University of Cambridge for the 'Qualcomm Research Studentship in Computing' and has donated to the formation of a joint research and scholarship program with the Beijing University of Posts and Telecommunications.
