Weymouth-based Tecan Components is poised to become the only manufacturer of tool foils that can be used in high-density circuit fabrication.
The technology could be worth £2m a year to the company and see it doubling its 100-strong workforce in the long term.
Tecan has developed a photomechanical machining technology to produce very high-quality imprint patterning for microvia-based PCBs. Its technology enables much tighter tolerances in the manufacture of traces, pitches and features on the boards.
Tecan expects to complete a factory for the foils in two months' time and has spent more than £1m on the project. It replaces facilities that were damaged in a fire just over a year ago.
