Samsung Electronics is now mass producing two ultra-high-speed MultiMediaCards, called the MMCplusT and MMCmobileT. The MMCs can transmit data at a rate of 52 Mbytes/s, which is up to 20X faster than existing MMCs. In general, this improvement comes from the support of wider bus widths, including “by 4” and “by 8.” A smaller MMC, the MMCmicroT, went into mass production earlier this year in densities of 32, 64, 128, and 256 MBytes. The faster speeds and smaller footprint of MMCs lets users enjoy higher performance from their portable consumer devices, such as mobile phones, digital still cameras, PDAs, MP3 audio players, and portable multimedia players (PMPs). The MMCplusT runs on 3.3 V and is three times faster than SDT memory cards. The MMCmobileT is half the size of the MMCplus and capable of dual-voltage support (1.8 or 3.3 V).
