Ultra low-power WLAN single-chip solution fabbed at 90 nm

According to the manufacturer, the 88W8686 is the world’s first 90-nm wireless LAN (WLAN) single-chip solution. Designed by Marvell, the 88W8686 draws less than 400 mW and requires less than 50 mm2 of board space. An example of Marvell's third-generation 88W8686 solution in a dual mode handset would result in connected standby times in excess of 250 hrs. and talk time in excess of 10 hrs. In addition, the part supports advanced layer 3/4 packet processing (TCP/IP) along with enhancements for UMA and IMS 3G services.

The Marvell 88W8686 integrates an ARM-compliant CPU, high-speed serial host interfaces including SDIO and SPI, and advanced 802.11 a/b/g RF transceiver with full cellular coexistence. It's fully backwards compatible with the company's WLAN software suite for Linux, Symbian, Windows CE, and other proprietary operating systems.
