LONDON Premier Farnell has been retained as the National Universities Working Party on Electronic Components’ (NUWPEC) preferred supplier for the UK higher education sector and research councils. The NUWPEC deal covers a new three-year contract with an anticipated sales value of £20million over the period.
Premier Farnell’s public sector customers include the UK Atomic Energy Authority (UKAEA) and the US Federal Government General Services Administration (GSA) schedule.
The service will be delivered through ‘onecall’ which has been developed by Premier Farnell for the higher education sector. This provides a single point of ordering for over 250,000 products. The service cuts administration time and costs, reduces paperwork and assists in the reduction of ‘maverick purchasing’ within participating institutions.
Onecall was set up by Farnell InOne, the distributor of electronic, electrical and industrial products, and appliance spares distributor, CPC, following their success in the European tender carried out by NUWPEC in autumn 1999. The onecall range was extended further in 2002 with the addition of products from BuckHickman InOne, the tools specialist.
Shortly to be available will also be the Newark InOne Direct Ship service which will bring an addition of 70,000 products onto the onecall website.
Orders are taken by a dedicated team via phone, fax, e-mail or online, with some universities even having an on-site onecall representative to provide liaison between the university and the Premier Farnell businesses.
