Toshiba expanded its constant-current white LED driver product line with a driver IC that powers the multi-segment white LEDs used to backlight the latest LCD panels in small portable devices such as cell phones and PDAs. Designated TB62752AFUG, the high-precision, high-performance switching white LED driver IC can drive two to eight LEDs serially, has high output power for up to 800-mW LED loading, and features a built-in surge-protection function. The part can drive those eight LEDs in series form a Li-Ion battery.
The part features a surge-detection pin that reduces the external part count while protecting the driver circuit and it achieves a power-efficiency of 80% or more during seven-segment white LED operation. The current precision is a guaranteed value of +/-5%.
The part is housed in a lead-free SOT23-6 package that measures 2.9 by 2.8 mm. Samples are currently available and mass production is scheduled to begin in December. Current pricing is $0.99 each in 1000-piece quantities. The devices are available from Toshiba directly or through Marktech Optoelectronics (www.marktechopto.com).
