Young Engineers collect prizes


LONDON — Linda Sanford (left), senior vice president IBM is pictured with Ruth Amos(16) winner of Young Engineer for Britain 2006 and Andrew Nowell (18) winner of The Duke of York’s Award for innovative electronics.

Amos from Eckington School, Derbyshire designed a product called Stair Steady to help physically impaired people get up and down the stairs, while Nowell from Nottingham High School designed a remote computer and interface system.

The Young Engineers operation has a growing nationwide network of after school engineering clubs, which form a core constituent of the Royal Academy of Engineering’s Best Programme. The network is funded and supported entirely by industry and professional institutions and is endorsed by Government. Patron is HRH The Duke of York, KG, KCVO, ADC.
